The ASTM A563 specification covers carbon steel and alloy nuts designed for general, industrial, and structural purposes. These nuts fall under the category of ASTM A563 Nuts. About ASTM A563 Nut
The sizes range anywhere from a quarter of an inch to four inches. The standard hex nuts can be as long as 1 1/2 inches, while the heavy hex nuts can be as long as 4 inches. The required tensile strength of the nuts, according to ASTM A563 Grade A, is up to 90ksi in their plain state.
68 kilopascals is the proof load for galvanized steel. This grade of nuts has a hardness that can range anywhere from 116 to 302 HBN. The tensile strength of DH3 grade can reach up to 175 ksi, and its hardness can go anywhere from 248 to 352 HBN. The various mechanical and chemical qualities and heat treatments are accounted for in the ASME SA563 Heavy Hex nut standards. In their chemical composition, these nuts have elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. There is some variation in the proportions.
